Metaphors from around the globe

On Superlinguo I stumbled over some drawings from a celebration of International Mother Language Day (more of them are to bee seen at Endangered Language Archive). The idea is very simple but quite cool: share your favourite idiom!

So I thought I’d have a go at a Swiss German idiom: De Füfer und s Weggli (haa wele), which literally translates to (to want to have) the five cent coin and the bread roll and means the same as have your cake and eat it too.

By the way, as Switzerland is not poor anymore, we nowadays combine our Weggli with chocolate fivers, so we can actually have both.
